As we age, gravity can cause skin sagging and an accumulation of fatty tissue on the neck. Even very slim individuals can suffer from an excess of fatty tissue on the neck, usually as a result of genetics, and it is not really possible to improve it drastically with diet and exercise alone.
One option is the neck lift, but many patients wish to avoid the downtime and potential complications, particularly the scarring, that is a result of a surgical procedure. Liposuction is not really suitable for the delicate neck area as it is a more aggressive procedure, that can cause much trauma, swelling and bruising.
VASER Liposelection has emerged as an effective alternative to improving the contours of the neck if fatty tissue lies above the platysma muscle in the neck. Those patients with moderate skin laxity can see a marked improvement as the skin is tightened at the same time as the fatty tissue is removed.
VASER is termed as minimally invasive, meaning it causes much less trauma to the different tissues and it is also very precise, so Dr Joshua Berkowitz is able to target the fat cells lying just under the skin, producing a smooth contour and avoiding any lumps or bumps.
Performed under local anaesthetic, Dr Berkowitz will make tiny incisions, sited as discreetly as possible in the folds of the neck, before inserting the VASER probe. Ultrasound energy is directed in to the fat cells, destroying them so they are easy to remove through very gentle suction with a fine cannula. Any destroyed fat cells that are left will be removed by the body naturally over time.
Although VASER cannot reverse the ageing process and therefore won’t stop the skin from sagging in the future, it can produce a natural tightening effect so the results will continue to improve over the next few months.
